Please advise the Center before 8:00 am if a child will not be attending daycare due to illness. If your little one had an immunization shot, it is standard practice that the doctor asks parents to stay home thereafter to properly monitor your child's reaction, so students will not be allowed back to school the same day without a doctor's slip indicating it is safe for the child to be at school. Parents agree that a child who is ill (e.g., fever, infection, diarrhea, runny nose, communicable disease, or any other type of illness that may be passed on to others must be kept at home to protect the well-being of other children. Please respect our illness policy. If a child is not well enough to go outside to play, they are not well enough to attend school. Teething does not cause fever, cold, or any other common illness. The parents further agree should a child become ill while in care, those immediate arrangements will be made to remove the child from the class. Children will not be allowed to return to school until they have been symptom-free for at least 24 hours, and a note from a doctor is necessary.

Immunizations

DISCIPLINE POLICY

Discipline Procedures and Policies

At Just Kids Academy, we believe that learning how to interact positively with others and follow instructions is a crucial part of a child's development. Our discipline policy is designed to help children achieve this in a supportive and caring environment. We focus on encouraging positive behaviors and guiding children towards self-control and responsibility for their actions. This approach ensures a happy and successful preschool experience for everyone.

Our discipline procedures will consist of the following strategies:

1. Encourage children to use their words when having a disagreement with another child. Facilitating children in their attempts to settle their own disputes.

2. Redirecting behavior when this seems potentially effective.

3. Separating a child from the group (Time-Out) – One Minute away for each year of age.

4. Counseling children individually about their behaviors.

5. Making parents aware of disciplinary concerns (Incident Report)

Disruptive Behavior distracts from the full benefit of the SCHOOL program and will result in consequences. To ensure the safety of students and staff, we have put in place a positive discipline program. The following are guidelines used when disciplinary action becomes necessary due to unacceptable behavior. Severe behavior will be addressed by the Preschool Director/Principal. The following behaviors are considered disruptive:

  • Requires constant attention from the staff

  • Inflicts physical or emotional harm on other children, adults or oneself

  • Disrespects people and materials provided

  • Consistently disobeys the rules of the classroom

  • Verbally threatens other students and/or staff

  • Uses verbal or physical activity that diverts attention away from the group of children

Discipline Procedures for Disruptive Behavior

  • 1ST OFFENCE: A verbal warning is given, with an explanation of the offense.

  • 2ND OFFENCE: The child will be separated from the group and placed in time out for 1-4 minutes according to their age.

  • 3RD OFFENCE: The child may not be allowed to do outdoor/indoor play, depending on the teacher's choice, for 5 to 10 minutes of self reflection time.

  • 4TH OFFENCE: The teacher will call the administrator to the room to discuss with the child the offense for which he/she is being reprimanded.

  • 5TH OFFENCE: The Parent will be contacted for a Parent-Teacher Conference to discuss a solution to the particular offense.

  • 6th OFFENCE: Suspension- 1 to 2 days from the SCHOOL and/or remainder of the day.

  • 7TH OFFENCE: Repeated aggressive/inappropriate behavior may result in removal from the program with approval from the Preschool Director/ Principal.

  • Invitations: Birthday invitations can be dropped off at the school office for distribution to your child's class.

  • Dress-Up: The teacher may request a fun dress-up theme for the day. Please note that regardless of any theme, it will still be a regular school day with regular classes and learning taking place.
